Mrs. Emma Haas Passed Away Last Thursday

WAS AGED OVER 71 YEARS

The death of Mrs. Emma Haas, whose maiden name was Emma Louisa Judiesch, occurred at her residence 2 1/12 miles east of Grandview, Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. Mrs. Haas had been sick for about four weeks and on Monday underwent a critical operation for the removal of her gall stones, but her weakened condition through suffering and stomach trouble left her unable to recover from the operation.

Mrs. Haas was born in Berlin, Germany, Aug. 18, 1843. She came to America with her parents when she was six years of age. She resided at Pine Creek, Iowa, until 1860, when she was united in marriage to Mr. Peter Haas of Grandview, and has resided here since that time.

Four boys and six girls were born to these parents. The husband and three children have preceded her to the Heavenly home. The remaining
children are Mrs. George Hascher, of Wapello; Mrs. John Walters, Mrs. Wm. Allen and George and Edward Haas of Grandview, Iowa; Mrs. Edwin Kluckholm, of Garner, Iowa, and Mrs. Herman Lohse, of California.

Mrs. Haas was converted at the age of 13 and united with the Congregational church at Pine Creek under the pastorate of her father. She transferred her membership to the Congregational church at Grandview in 1860 and since that time has been an active and faithful member of the church. She was a woman widely known, highly esteemed and sincerely loved. She showed a remarkable clearness of faith and full resignation to the will of God in her sickness. She sang, "Must Jesus bear the Cross alone," and "Jesus Lover of my Soul," when she knew the end was drawing near.

The funeral services were held at the Congregational church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the pastor conducting the services, choosing his text from Jno. 14:1, 2.
