John Allen Ernst, 59, 114 Gilbert St., died Monday night, Aug. 12, 1996, at Muscatine General Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. A private family visitation will be held.

Mr. Ernst was born May 30, 1937, in Muscatine, a son of John D. and Grace M. Silderhorn Ernst. He was a life resident of the area. He married Yvonne E. "Bonnie" Bloomhuff on Oct. 31, 1955, at Lone Tree.

He was a member of the Muscatine Boxing Club, and was a former Golden Glove Champion. He had also helped with the AMGEN Cancer Research at the University of Iowa.

He was employed in the research and development department at Bandag Inc. for 24 years.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; one son, John A. and his wife, Rebecca, of Muscatine; one daughter, Mrs. Michael (Yvonne) Beckman of Muscatine; four grandchildren, Amy and Angela Beckman, and John A. III "Jake" and Joseph P. Ernst; one brother, Everett Ernst of Muscatine; and one sister, Barbara Mast of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Beatrice.
