Earl Melvin Honson, age 95, of Mediapolis, Iowa, died Sunday morning, September 15, 1996 at the Community Care of America at Mediapolis.

The son of Soloman and Wilhemina Brodd Honson, he was born July 28, 1901 at Mediapolis. He married Elizabeth 'Bessie' Carter on April 22, 1922 at Burlington. She died July 30, 1992.

Eerl had been a trucker and farmer having owned & operated Earl Honson Trucking for 50 years. He was of the protestant faith and had been a member of the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Jean Heitmeier and Bette Siefken both of Mediapolis; four sons, Lyndell Honson of Mediapolis, Dr. Ralph Honson of Davenport, Rev. Lester Honson of Bufford, Georgia, and Rev. Ronald Honson of Boone; seventeen grandchildren; thirty eight great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Coulter of Mediapolis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wife, Bessie; son, Lowell; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Alma, Mabel, Nora, Edna and Elsie; and two brothers, Clifford and Albion.

The funeral service for Earl Honson was at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 1996 at the First United Methodist Church of Mediapolis with Rev. Lester Honson and Rev. Ronald Honson officiating and Barbara Watt sharing memories. Music was provided by Kordee Carruthers, organist, and Nancy Honson, vocalist. Casket bearers were; Kirk Honson, David Honson, Gerald Siefken, Gary Honson, Nathan Honson, and Matthew Honson. Burial followed at the Kossuth Cemetery, Mediapolis.

The family met friends Tuesday evening at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Mediapolis.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefits of the Mediapolis Community Auditorium Fund or the Mediapolis Community Ambulance Service.
