Cleda Birney, 72, 2221/2 Main St., Columbus Junction, died Monday Dec 3, 1985 at the Washington County Extended Care Hospital, Washington, Iowa, following an extended illiness.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Stacy-lewis Chapel, Columbus Junction. there is no visitation. burial will be in the Long Creek Cemetery, Wapello. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Birney was born Oct. 30, 1912, in Rural Louisa County, a daughter of James and Estella Woodruff Bennett. She married Carroll McGill in July, 1929. she later married Homer Birney, Aug 6, 1960 in Kahoka, Mo. He died Jan. 1, 1968. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by one son, C. Lonnie McGill, Columbus Junction; four daughters, Mrs. Bernadine Winter, Camden, Tenn.; Mrs. Marvin (Karen) Dent, Davenport; Mrs. Wilber (Sandra) Tompkins, rural Letts; and Mrs. R. "Bud" (Judy) Speth, Columbus Junction; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Boyd, Columbus Junction; and Mrs. Jennie Partington, Neodesha, Kan.; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, four brothers and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.
