MISS HARRIET PORTER DIED LAST EVENING
PASSED AWAY AT RANKIN HOME ON EAST THIRD STREET

Had Been Suffering from Stomach Trouble - Death Was Sudden - Is Survived by One Sister

Miss Harriet Porter, a former resident of Grandview, Ia., died very suddenly at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rankin, on East Third street last night. The cause of her death was due to stomach trouble from which she had been sufffering for several years. Her condition was not serious, however, yesterday and it was not until about 7 o'clock last night that she was taken ill. She rapidly became worse, however, and shortly after 9 o'clock passed away. Very little is known of the life of the deceased and the only surviving relative is Mrs. Samuel Gray, of Grandview, Ia. She has lived in this city for the past 15 years and has been employed in many houses as a cook and housekeeper. She also worked for sometime in the hotels in this city and two weeks ago was hired by Mrs. Rankin to do work at her boarding house. While in this city Miss Porter had few friends in whom she told any of her past history and as a result it was not until late this morning that any relative of the deceased was found. The body is now at Day's undertaking rooms where it remained until late this afternoon when it was shipped to Grandview for interment.
