Mrs. T. E. Johnson died at the Washington hospital in Chicago Aug. 16, following an operation for the removal of gall stones. The remains were brought back to her home in Grandview, where the funeral services were held yesterday.

Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of J.P. Walker, of Grandview, where practically all her life was spent. Her early life was spent in her native village and there on March 5, 1891, she was united in marriage to Mr. T.E. Johnston, of McConnellsburg, Penn. They went at once to Colorado, remaining there a few years, then returning to Grandview. They have since made it their home, with the exception of two years, which were spent in Washington, Iowa. Emma was a devoted Christian woman, unassuming; never shirking duy, but often performing it at the sacrifice of her own comfort and pleasure. She always had a kind, cheering word for all around her. In former years she was identified with the United Presbyterian church, but more recently with the Congregational church, as there was no church of her choice in the village. We cannot understand why she should be taken from a life of love and usefulness here, but a kind and loving Father has called her to her reward and we know that He makes no mistakes. So while we have sorrow yet it is not as those who have no hope, for it is written "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, her father, J.P. Walker, her step-mother, Mrs. Walker, a sister, Mrs. Knox Chambers, of Fort Morgan, Colo., a brother, William Walker, of Grandview, and a step-sister, Miss May Jones, of Grandview.

The funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. Marshall, of Columbus City. The esteem in which she was held by her friends was evidenced by their presence. The floral offerings were many and beautiful. Interment in the Grandview cemetery.
