Carolina Van Wagner Reed was born in Williamsport, Ohio, November 5, 1820, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Snyder, Dec. 14, 1910, after a lingering illness of over one year, aged 70 years 1 month and 9 days. She was united in marriage to Nelson Reed, January 26, 1841, and moved to Louisa county, Ia., in 1845, where they have resided until their demise. The husband, Nelson Reed, preceded her 2 years ago. This union was blessed with nine children, of whom four still survive. Mrs. Elizabeth Snyder, Josias, Mrs. Almeda Buell, all of near Grandview, and Frank, of Wapello. She also leaves to mourn her loss 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was known as Grandma Reed and was a kind and loving wife and mother, a good neighbor and was respected by all who knew her.
