MYRTLE THOMPSON

Myrtle Thompson, age 93, of Wapello, died Wednesday evening, August 17, 1994, at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center. For a number of years Myrtle had also lived in Bettendorf.

The daughter of William and Sarah Fish Benson, she was born October 31, 1900, at Wapello. She married Rodney K. Thompson on May 10, 1919, at Wapello. He died January 27, 1982. She was a homemaker and had also worked at the Canning Factory at Wapello. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church at Bettendorf and had been active at the Cedar Street Church of God in Wapello.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Malcom of Wapello, and Judy St. Clair of Wyaconda, Missouri; three sons, Robert Thompson of Colona, Illinois; William Thompson of East Moline, Illinois; and Kenneth Thompson of Bettendorf; fourteen grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rodney; one granddaughter; five sisters; and two brothers.

The funeral service for Myrtle Thompson was held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 1994, at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Kathleen Hagele provided the organ music and Alana Poage was vocalist presenting “Beyond the Sunset” and “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”

The casket bearers included David Thompson, Dan Thompson, James Malcom, Chad Grimm, Timothy St. Clair, and Dick Grimm. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the Grandview Community Bible Church. The family met with friends Friday evening at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
