A. WAYNE "MOE" OGIER

Columbus Junction, Iowa – A celebration of life service will be held for A. Wayne “Moe” Ogier on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the Columbus Junction United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, from 3-7 p.m. The Rev. Wally Page and the Rev. James Trosen will conduct the celebration. Mary Beth Carey will have a reading. The organist will be Lori Carroll.

A memory video of Moe’s life will be shown during the services. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery, beside his mother, Tracy. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion. A fly-over will be conducted by Ceil Schenk of Yarmouth. Your bouquet of flowers or general memorial will be cherished. Family and friends are encouraged to attend a gathering after the committal at the American Legion in Columbus Junction. Moe died Saturday, Dec. 7, 1996, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

Moe was born in Columbus Junction on April 18, 1927. He was the son of Lee Roy and Tracy Lowe Ogier. He was greeted at home by two sisters, Iris and Wanda. He attended Columbus Junction schools, graduating in 1944. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II in the United States and Germany. He arrived in Dachau shortly after it had been liberated.

Moe will be most remembered for his love of aviation. He received his license in 1946 and enjoyed flying for more than 40 years until his first heart attack in 1981. He earned many different ratings and had taken aerobatic flying lessons from world champion aerobatic pilot Bob Hoover. He had been captain of the Civil Air Patrol.

Moe married Betty Mentink on May 8, 1949, at the Letts United Methodist Church. From their marriage, two daughters were born, Diana and Danita. Moe farmed most of his adult life with his father-in-law, Gerald Mentink, of Letts. During the winter months he worked for Monsanto, Hendersons and Delzel Brothers. He also ran an automotive shop on his farm, Wayne Motors. He belonged to the Iowa Soybean Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Growers Association, where he earned awards for production levels in the ‘70s and ‘80s. He also was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, International Aerobatic Pilots Association, Elks 304 and American Legion Post 99.

He is survived by his two daughters, Diana Ogier-Lewis and her husband, D. Stacy Lewis of Muscatine, and Danita Drawbaugh of Muscatine; six grandchildren, Charity, Calista, David and Dominique Lewis, and Adam and Alex Drawbaugh, all of Muscatine; one great-grandson, Tyler; one sister, Wanda Gage, and her husband, Jim of Letts. He is also survived by nephews, Larry and Gary Gage, Craig McCarthy, Steven and Tony Nopoulos; and a special friend and caregiver, Eilene McDonald, of Columbus Junction.

Carrying Moe’s casket to his final resting place will be his grandchildren, Charity, Calista, David, Dominique, Adam and Alex, and nephews, Craig McCarthy, Tony Nopoulos and Steve Nopoulos.

Standing in honor of the celebration will be Robert Meeker, Farrel Gentzler, Gary Todd, Paul Lowe, Robert Lowe, Jim Gage, Jim Carey, Ray Bonnichsen, Robert Murray, D. Stacy Lewis, Warren Lewis, Richard Payne, Wayne Barnes, Eilene McDonald, Junior McDonald, Connie Plank and Wayne Reed.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfather, William Seiler, one sister, Iris Nopoulos, a nephew, Jon Nopoulous, and one great-nephew.
