Kenneth L. Swafford, 64, of Oakville, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 2003, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington, Iowa. The son of Otis and Mildred Knouse Swafford, he was born March 4, 1938, in Wapello.

Mr. Swafford owned and operated Swafford's Automotive where he thoroughly enjoyed working on vehicles. He had previously worked in the construction of electrical highline towers.

He was a long-time member of the Oakville Volunteer Fire Deparment, and had enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include three sons, Steven Swafford of West Burlington, Michael Swafford of Rochester, Minn., and David and wife Wanda Swafford of Fort Madison; two daughters, Janet Parks of Carman, Ill., and Sharon Trejo of Burlington; two sisters, Delores Winterton of Hemet, Calif., and Barbara Siegworth of Yarmouth; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Robert Swafford and James Swafford, both of Mediapolis, and Russell Swafford of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Kerr, Ernie Peck, Tom Wykert, Kenny Brockway, Jim Mitchell and Monte Lanz. Honorary bearers were Wes Gerst, Bill Brauns, Jeff Boyer, Douglas Boyer and Robbie Lanz.

Visitation was Sunday at the funeral home where the family met with friends in the evening.

A memorial fund has been established.
