Donald F. Crist, 85, of Burlington, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport. The son of Charles and Leota Murphy Crist, he was born Nov. 24, 1917, at Conesville. He graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1936. He married Betty Fiscus in 1945 at Davenport.

Mr. Crist served in the U.S. Army for five years during World War II. He then was a business agent and worked with the Iron Workers Union No. 577 in Burlington.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Burlington, the American Legion Hays Scott Post of Morning Sun and the Iron Workers Union.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Barry Crist of McQueeney, Texas, and Douglas Crist of Burlington; six grandchildren; a brother, Verle Crist of Cibolo, Texas; a sister-in-law, Thelma Crist of Morning Sun; a niece, Janice Johnson of West Burlington; and three nephews, Randy, Raymond and Charles Crist of Austin, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Vernon Schechter and Weldon Crist.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, at the United Methodist Church in Morning Sun with the Rev. Harlan W. Winter officiating. Burial followed at the Conesville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bob Hill, Ron Mickel, Tom Broeker, Deryl O'Daniels, Danny O'Daniels and Dan Boyd.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Hope Haven Ertz Home at 1901 Racine Ave., West Burlington.

Visitation was Sunday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun.
