William B. Thompson

William B. Thompson, a veteran of the Civil War and one of the most widely known and highly respected insurance men in this city, passed away yesterday afternoon at 4:40 at his home, 518 East Ninth Street. For the past three years he has been in poor health but he has been able to attend to his business until just recently. He was a veteran of the Civil War and was wounded at Raseca, Ga., during Sherman's great campaign. The bullet was never removed and finally caused his death by blood poisoning. He has been identified in the business world of Muscatine for the past 20 years. having removed to this city from Grandview in 1885.

He was born at Grandview, Ia., July 22 1844, making his age at the time of his death 61 years, 7 months and 16 days. He leaves to mourn his demise his wife, Maria Thompson, three sons, Harry C., of Chicago; Ralph W. and Herbert C., of this city; also a step-son and a stepdaughter, Frank A. Johnson, of Broken Bow, Neb., and Mrs. Michols Lenz, of this city. One brother, Jacob Thompsom of Grandview; Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, of Washington, Ia. Two children preceded him in death.

The funeral services will be held at the home Saturday at 9 a.m. and will be private. Interment will be made at the family burying ground at Grandview Saturday afternoon.

Rev. J. W. Potter will be the officiating clergyman. The deceased was a member of Company C, 7th Iowa, Infantry Volunteers and Shelby Norm Post will furnish the pall bearers.
