BERTHA M. BUCKMAN

Bertha M. Buckman, 91, of West Liberty died Wednesday March 24, 1999 at the Simpson Memorial Home in West Liberty following an extended illness.

She was born February 2, 1908 in Morning Sun, Iowa the daughter of William and Emily McKinley Thompson. She had attended Parsons College and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She had taught school in Morning Sun for several years. She was married to Robert Buckman September 5, 1934 in Morning Sun.

She was a 50 year member of the Lotus Chapter O.E.S. where she had served as Past Matron, and a member and past president to Chapter A.H.P.E.O. She was a member of the First Church United in West Liberty.

Survivors include two daughters: Carole (Mrs. Dale) Ewald of Los Alamitos, California, Sandra (Mrs. Richard) Ballou of Wilton. One son Robert and his wife Paula Buckman of Morning Sun, Iowa. Two sisters: Susan Smith of Morning Sun and Verna Buffington of Columbus Jct. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert in 1972, 3 brothers, 1 sister and a granddaughter.

Funeral services were held 1:30 p.m. Saturday March 27, 1999 at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty with Rev. Al Zimmerman officiating. Organist was Marianne Phelps with Darren Brooke as soloist. Pallbearers were Charles Newcomb, Wayne Noring, Howard Bjork and Walt Lehman. Burial was in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established.
