Zelma Y. Mason, 91, of Grinnell, and formerly of Washington, D.C. and What Cheer died Dec. 10, at the Mayflower Home in Grinnell.

A graveside service for Miss Mason was held Dec. 12, at McFarland Cemetery in What Cheer, with Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the What Cheer Public Library. Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell is handling arrangements.

The daughter of Fred and Ellen Procter Mason, she was born March 7, 1908, in What Cheer. She was reared in What Cheer and was a 1925 graduatre of What Cheer High School. She later attended a business school in Oskaloosa. She moved to Washington, D.C. in the late 1920's and was employed with the Veterans Administration as an administrative assistant. She retired in the late 1960's and moved to the Mayflower Home in Grinnell in 1998.

Survivors include three nieces, Barbara Heishman of Grinnell, Ruth Rabenold of Montezuma and Janice Cooley of Morning Sun. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Fred, Osman, Will and George Mason; two sisters, Susan DeSpain and Ann Hamilton.
