Theresa Ethel VanNice Carroll, 77, of route 1, Mediapolis, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, 1987, at the home of her daughter, Connie Geiselhart, Muscatine.

Born May 10, 1910 at her parents homestead, rural Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Silenas "Rene" and Josephine Lydia "Lena" Heubner VanNice. She Married Bernard Carroll Jan. 25, 1933 in Kirksville, Mo.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was the granddaughter of one of the first settlers in Yellow Springs Township, James VanNice, and had lived for nearly seven decades in the home her parents built in 1898.

Surviving are two sons, Sidney Carroll, Bettendorf, and Bernard Carroll, Brighton; two daughters, Joan Ryner, West Burlington, and Connie Geiselhart, Muscatine; 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. she was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and two grandchildren.

Visitation was tuesday at the Fry Funeral Chapel, Mediapolis.

The service was at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mediapolis, with the Rev. Carl Beyerhelm officiating. Burial was in Kossuth Cemetery.

A memorial has been established. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
