Nellie P. Curan, 95, of Morning Sun, died Friday, Sept. 18, 1987 at the Morning Sun Care Center.

Born Jan. 1, 1892 near Morning Sun, she was the daughter of Edward P. and Alfretta Bucher Curran.

She was a graduate of Morning Sun High School and Iowa Wesleyan College, and began her teaching career in Thompson. She taught at Morning Sun, Columbus Junction, Burlington High School and in the Burlington school system for more than 29 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Surviving are one sister, Lucille Butler, Morning Sun; two nephews, Ronald W. Butler and Terry M. Butler, both of Morning Sun; one grandniece; and three great-grandnephews.

Visitation was held at the Pierce Funeral Home, Morning Sun.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Morning Sun United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dennis McMillan officiating. Joyce Butler was vocalist. Sherry Robb and Merry Bonar assisted with flowers. Pallbearers were, Robert Nichols, Duane Boner, Richard Robb, Jack Smith, Jack Wheeler and Charles Beck.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, Moring Sun, Ia., with arrangements by Pierce Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established for the Hope Haven Area Development Center.
