Marion H. Barnes, 94, died Sept. 6, 1991 at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney.

He was born Feb. 1, 1897 at What Cheer, to Joseph Vore and Antoinette Sale Barnes.

He graduated from Wapello High School in 1917 and began working for the Rock Island Railway. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1918 and serving in France. Returning home in May 1919. He then resumed working for the railway. On Nov. 25, 1919 he was united in marriage to Ella Mildred Drake at Kansas City, Mo. In 1924 he was appointed Postmaster at Wapello and continued in that capicity until July 1, 1936, when he began working as assistant cashier at the State Bandk of Wapello. He remained with this position until moving to Keswick in 1945 as ass't cashier of 1st Truct & Savings Bank. In 1946 he was appointed as cashier of 1st Trust & Union Savings Bank of Sigourney. He was a 25 yr. Charter member of Wapello American Legion, a member of the Masonic Lodge for 35 yrs, a member of the United Methodist Church of Sigourney and was secretary of the Sigourney School Board for 14 years.

Survivors include: his devoted wife, Ella; a son, Joseph Marion Barnes of Mason City; a daughter, Dorothy Calvert of Anamosa; two granddaughters; 3 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and 36 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Joseph and two sisters, Louise Barnes and Josephine Grouwinkel.

Funeral services were held Sept. 9, 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Sigourney with Rev. Danny Lemons and Rev. Raymond Moore officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Sigourney. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church.

Reynolds Funeral Chapel was in charge of funeral arrangements.
