Gerald J. "Jerry" Hunt, age 76, Burlington, IA, died at 2:15 a.m. Saturday, February 26, 2000, at his home. He was born May 7, 1923 in Morning Sun, IA, a son of Victor R. and Hazel Winifred Siverly Hunt. He graduated form Morning Sun High School in 1941.

He married Thelma R., Dec. 27, 1947, in Moline, Illinois; she died January 21, 1995.

He was affiliated with the Congregational Church, and was a former member of the Moose and Masonic Lodges.

Gerald owned and operated Hunt's Super Service at Summer and South Street. On his station there was a sign that said" If you can't stop, smile as you go by."

He is survived by a son, Jon R. Hunt, Raleigh, NC; a granddaughter, Laura Kohia, Seattle, WA; a grandson, Benjamin Hunt, Seattle, WA; a foster daughter, Salma Badruddin, Carachi, Pakistan; his father, Victor R. Hunt, Morning Sun, IA; and a brother, Forrest Hunt, Wapello, IA.

He was preceded in death by his mother, wife Thelma, and one sister, Mary Etta Kemp.

Funeral services for Jerry Hunt were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 29, 2000, at Lunning Chapel, Burlington, with the Rev. Shirley Bliven officiating. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun, IA.

Visitation was Monday, Feb. 28 at Lunning Chapel, with the family meeting with friends in the evening. In lieu of flowers a memorial was established.
