Esther Marie Bowers, age 86, Morning Sun, died Wednesday January 18, 1989 at the Morning Sun Care Center.

The daughter of Charles and Anna (Bartenhagen) Samuels, she was born April 4, 1902 at Muscatine. On August 4, 1925 she married Murl Bowers at Muscatine, who died February 16, 1976.

Mrs. Bowers was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include 3 daughters, Darlene Widman and Mary Wood, both of Omaha, Nebraska; Ruth Jennett, Mooresville, Indiana; 2 sons, Murl Bowers, Jr., Kingston; Donald Bowers, Morning Sun; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 5 brothers, Ray, Carl, Dean of Wapello; Glen and Robert of Morning Sun; 4 sisters, Vera Bowers of Port Byron, Illinois; Margaret Bowers and Helen Pecki, Winter Haven, Florida; Miriam McConahay, Muscatine. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 1 sister, Viola.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 21, at 1:30 p.m. from the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, Morning Sun, with Rev. Tom Zeleny officiating. Music was by Geneva Samuels, organist. Casket bearers were Michael Widman, Bill Widman, Denny Bowers, Steve Boline, Brian Wood and Nathan Kerr. Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Morning Sun. A memorial has been established for the Morning Sun Ambulance Service.
