Kermit Owens Campbell, age 79, of Wapello died Tuesday evening May 30, 1989 at St. Francis Continuation and Nursing Home Care Center at Burlington, Iowa. He was born November 25, 1909 at Oakville, Iowa the son of John L. and Jennie Owens Campbell. On December 4, 1931 he married Phronia Wonders at Monmouth, Illinois. Kermit had farmed and during WWII worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant at Burlington and then worked for 30 years for the Farmers Elevator and Exchange at Wapello. He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Wapello.

Kermit Campbell is survived by his wife, Phronia; one daughter, Clara (Mrs. Roger) Ault of Princeton, Illinois; one son Darrel of Burlington; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Curran of Yarmouth and Mary Godwin of Wapello; and one brother Paul of Mt. Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Nellie, one son Lynn, one granddaughter Alice McElhiney, one sister Bessie Ray and one brother Kenneth.

Funeral service for Kermit Campbell was held at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. Saturday June 3, 1989 with Rev. George Yetter officiating. Phyllis McCulley provided the organ music. Honorary bearers were Dale Campbell and Gene Godwin. Casket bearers were Dean Campbell, Roger Campbell, John Campbell, Keith Campbell, Herb Curran, and Paul Wonders. Burial was in the Wapello Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Community Ambulance Service.
