Carolyn "Cotty" Hicklin, age 62, of Wapello died Thursday, August 9, 1990 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at Iowa City, Iowa. She was born November 20, 1926 at Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of John Lee and Kathryn Louise Burnett Woods. On June 21, 1947 she married Edwin A. Hicklin at Burlington, Iowa.

"Cotty" Hicklin had worked as the Executive Director of the Shining Trail Council of Girl Scouts. She had also been a President of the Council and was instrumental in the development of Camp L-Kee-Ta. She was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church at Burlington, the PiBeta Phi Fraternity, P.E.O. Sisterhood-Chapter ET Wapello, had been active in the Republican Party and other public affairs including serving on the Wapello City Council and the Wapello Park Board, and currently the Louisa County Compensation Board.

She had graduated from high school at Crossett, Arkansas and attended Hendrix College at Conway, Arkansas and the University of Iowa where she had studied music. Music and piano accompaniment continued as an active part of her life.

Survivors include her Mother, Louise Woods of Wapello; her husband, Edwin A.; three daughters, Kathryn "Kate" Gerst of Wapello, Martha Remley of Overland Park, Kansas, and Dr. Elizabeth "Betsy" Barber of Abington, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; one sister, Mary Lee Stroup of Lexington, Kentucky; and one brother, James E. Woods of Denver, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her father; one sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Gibson; and one grand-daughter, Hannah Louise Gerst.

Funeral service was held Monday, August 13, 1990 at 10:00 A.M. at the Christ Episcopal Church at Burlington with Father Wayne Kamm officiating. William L. Matthews gave the Eulogy, Cathryn Norrgard was the organist, and Jay Hauenstein and Bob McConnell provided special music.

The interment of the cremains was at the Wapello Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established and donations may be left at or mailed to the State Bank of Wapello.

Hagele and Honts Funeral Home of Morning Sun provided the arrangements.
