The following is from a hand-written obituary taken from a Louisa County Historical Society scrapbook.

Laura Rock Dies at 88

Lora Rock, 88 yr old Iowa artist, died at the Ross nursing home June 18 1956.

A resident of Morning Sun since childhood, Miss Rock was born at Fairhaven Ohio on Dec. 7, 1867, the daughter of Andrew and Martha Warden Rock. She taught in the rural schools in the M.S. areas as a young woman, and later gained fame for her paintings of Iowa scenery, done in oils.

Three sisters survive: Mrs. Ada Smith, National City, Calif., Mrs. Carrie Lambert and Mrs. Emma Legget, Phoenix Ariz.

Funeral at U.P. Church, burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
