Gomer E. Davis, age 68 of rural Crawfordsville, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007, at Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction. The son of Alfred E. and M. Eleanor (Griffith) Davis, he was born November 27, 1938, at home in Louisa County. In 1961 he married Brenda Wood, in 1972 he married Carol Hoaglin, and in 1985 he married Mary Dison, all later divorced. He attended Wyman High School and graduated from the Winfield High School. He was a graduate of the Iowa Barber College in Des Moines. In later years he attended Kilgore College in Kilgore, Texas. He worked on the family farm and did barbering in Ottumwa, Winfield, and Wapello. He was an over the road truck driver, driving in all 48 states. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1960-1964. He was a member of the Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church, the Iowa Welsh Society, Great Plains Welsh Heritage Center, the Louisa County Historical Society, American Legion #100 of Columbus Junction, and Pheasants Forever. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, race cars, tractor pulls, landscaping and his grandchildren.

He is survived by two sons; Keith Davis of Mount Laurel, New Jersey; Scott Davis of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two daughters: Nedda Morse of Marion, Arkansas and Sheri Morgan of Tigard, Oregon; six grandsons; one sister, Margaret Patterson of Iowa City; two brothers, Robert Davis and Dallas Davis both of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, David Davis.

The funeral service was held Monday, September 24, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at the Salem Welsh United Presbyterian Church, with Loran Yoder officiating. Interment followed at the Cambrian Cemetery, with military rites. Memorials have been established for the Hospice of Washington County and the Gomer Davis Memorial Fund.
