Vera Mae Diller, 85, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2008 in Carriere, Mississippi.
Cremation rights were held at the McDonald Funeral Home in Picayune, Mississippi. A Memorial Service will be held February 8th at 10:30 AM at Columbus City Methodist Church, Columbus City, Iowa.

Vera was born on May 24, 1922 in Butte, Montana to Olga Elina (Johnson) and Earl Johnstone. She married John Richard Coon on July 4, 1945 at the Santa Maria Air Base in Santa Maria, California. She later married Fay Dean Diller on September 14, 1963.
Vera served in the Women's Army Air Corp. from June of 1944 till December of 1945. She was Post Master of the Columbus City Post Office for 37 years until her retirement in 1988.

She served as Vice President of the Iowa Branch of the National League of Postmasters. She loved attending the state and national League conventions which afforded her the opportunity to travel the country, meet people and provide some unforgettable memories. She added so much entertainment during the 2000 state convention that they give away a VERA award every year to the person contributing the most fun to their conventions.

Vera was a past member of the Columbus City Improvement Club, Columbus City Methodist Church, the Wapello Solid Rock Baptist Church and the Roseland Baptist Church in Picayune, Mississippi. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader.

She enjoyed writing poetry, stories and songs, loved traveling, spending time with her family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Rick (Richard) Coon and Linda Thiessen of Muscatine, Dianna Coon of Carriere, Mississippi, Michele McKune and Valerie (Richard) Robertson of Phoenix, Arizona; her grandchildren, John (Sharon) Coon, Carriere, Mississippi, Tammy (Robert) Distel, Sumter, SC, Tanya (Kevin) Allen, Moline, IL, Amanda Hampton, Muscatine, Nicolas Hampton, Burlington, Walker Hampton, Durant, Carrie (John) Short, Oskaloosa; Judiah McKune, Brandy Mae McKune and Rachele Plowman all of Phoenix and her 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John R. Coon, her brother, Harold and sister, Rae.
