Rev. Denley Harold Ganfield, age 93, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday December 30, 2006 at the United Presbyterian Home following a short illness.

Memorial services will be held 10:30 am Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at the United Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robert Wollenberg and Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Interment will take place at the Cascade Protestant Cemetery at a later date. Memorials can be directed to any of the churches that Rev. Denley was born January 29, 1913 on the Henry Ganfield farm in Dubuque County, Iowa the son of Henry and Louisa Jane (Denley) Ganfield. On October 20, 1939, Denley was united in marriage to Althea May Judd at the Presbyterian Church in Cascade, Iowa. Denley graduated from East Cascade High School in 1930. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Dubuque College of Liberal Arts and received his Bachelors of Theology from the Dubuque Theological Seminary in 1941.

Denley was a Presbyterian Minister from 1941 until his retirement in 1984. He served churches in Otterville and Littleton, Iowa from 1940-1941; Hardin, Illinois from 1942-1943; Middletown, Iowa from 1943-1945, Onida, South Dakota from 1945-1951; Union Township, Iowa near LeMars, Iowa from 1951-1955; West Liberty, Iowa from 1955-1963; Donnellson, Iowa from 1963-1969; Columbus Junction from 1969 until his retirement in 1984. Denley and Althea moved to Iowa City in 1984 where they lived until 1995 at which time they moved to the United Presbyterian Home in Washington, Iowa.

Denley served many roles through Presbytery. He was Moderator for the Eastern Iowa Presbytery and a Delegate to the General Assembly on several occasions. During his youth he was the State President of Christian Endeavor. Denley was a member of the Iowa Conservationist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and playing pool. He was active in the Lions Club while in West Liberty and Donnellson, Iowa and was a Boy Scout Master while in West Liberty, Iowa.

He is survived by two sons, David J. Ganfield and wife, Lucy of Wilmington, Delaware; and Gerald A. Ganfield of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. He is also survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, thirteen nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Olive Judd, sister-in-law, Freda Wallace and husband, Robert.

Denley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1995, three sisters, one brother and two nephews.
