Edward Davidson Grimmer, age 77 of Winfield, died Tuesday evening, February 13, 2007 at his home in rural Winfield. The son of William J. and Nan (Davidson) Grimmer, he was born November 7, 1929 at Ozona, Texas. On January 30, 1955 he married Elsa Schmidt at Winfield. He was a 1948 graduate of the Winfield High School. He attended the University of Iowa for one year, served in the US Navy for 4 years during the Korean Conflict, and then graduated from Iowa Wesleyan College with a degree in Ecology. He was a farmer in the Winfield community for over 50 years. He was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church for 65 years; he served on various elevator boards and was a former bank director; was a former board member of the Henry County School Board; in early years, he was active in the Boy Scouts and played college football; he was an avid bird watcher; enjoyed reading a noted naturalist and conservationist, receiving the Louisa County Soil and Water Conservation District Woodland Owner of the Year Award in 2004.

Survivors include; his wife, Elsa of Winfield; one daughter, Helene Hermann of Winfield; two sons, David Grimmer of Seattle, Washington and Andy Grimmer of Mt. Pleasant; 4 grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Bill Grimmer of Houston, Texas; one sister, Betty Rosenberger of Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

According to his wishes, cremation has been accorded and there will be no visitation.
A memorial service was held Monday, February 19, 2007 at the Winfield United Methodist Church, with Rev. Nancy Bender officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the Iowa City Hospice, Winfield United Methodist Church, or the Charity of the donor’s choice.

Honts Funeral Home in Winfield is in charge of the arrangements.
