Anna Mae Houtz, age 100, of Wapello, Iowa, died Monday morning, January 22, 2007, at the Wapello Nursing and Rehab Center at Wapello. The daughter of Thomas and Luella Atherton Fry, she was born January 14, 1907 at Allen, Nebraska. She married David Houtz on March 21, 1925 at Wapello. He preceded her in death on September 14, 1967.

Anna Mae graduated from Grandview High School in 1924. She was a homemaker and for many years was a cook at the Wapello School and then at the Wapello Nursing Home and then at the Congregate Meals until recent years when she no longer was able.

She was a life member of the Derexa Rebekah Lodge at Wapello and had been a Past Noble Grand. She loved playing cards and also enjoyed various crafts and needlework including crocheting and making afghans.

She is survived by three sons, Robert and Patricia Houtz of Willets, California, Vernon and Phyllis Houtz of Grandview, Dennis LaMoine ‘Buzz’ and Blandina Houtz of Crescent City, California; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ruby Cross of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David; her daughter, Janice McArtor, three brothers, Forrest, Earl and Ralph; three sisters, Esther, Lucille, and an infant Fern; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral ceremony for Anna Mae Houtz will be held on Friday, January 26, 2007, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello, with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery at Burlington. A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Congregate Meals.
