Mildred J. Johnston, 87, of Muscatine died Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Lutheran Homes in Muscatine. Funeral services were at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Earlene Lekwa presided over the services. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery. Casketbearers were be Tory Sage, Stacy Chandler, Courtney Chandler and Shannon Connell. Visitation for Mildred was held on Monday from 1:00 P.M. until time of services at the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Mildred’s name. Sympathy notes may be left for the Johnston family at www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.

Mildred Jane Slagle was born on January 19, 1921 in Kirkwood, Illinois the daughter of Charles Emmett and Norah Lee (Armstrong) Slagle. Mildred was united in marriage to Wayne Johnston. Mildred helped her husband, Wayne and son, Chuck on the farm. She was a past member of the Garden Club and enjoyed going to the Tulip Festival in Pella and the House on the Rock in Wisconsin. Mildred also enjoyed spending time crocheting and tending her flowers.
