Leona Alice Knight, age 99, of Amarillo, Texas, formerly of Oskaloosa, Iowa and Oakville, Iowa, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at the Ware Memorial Care Center at Amarillo. The daughter of George Herrick and Nellie M. Waterhouse Willimas, she was born September 12, 1906 at Oakville. She married Eugene Norton Knight on June 1, 1940 at Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1978.

She graduated from Oakville High School and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught school at Oakville, Eldon and retired from Lincoln Elementary School in Oskaloosa. She was of the Presbyterian faith. She was a member of the Iowa State Education Association, the National Education Association, the Retired Teachers Association, the Order of Eastern Star #124 at Oskaloosa, the Phi Beta Alpha Delphian Society, and a former Rebekah.

She was a very caring person and will be deeply missed by her family.

She is survived by a brother, Wilson and Vera Williams of Las Vegas, Nevada; her granddaughter, Angelique ‘Angie’ Poire of Amarillo, Texas; her grandson Anthony ‘Tony’ Nichols of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and four great-grandchildren, Trevor Poire, Hali, Rage, and Raden Nichols. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Eugene; and her daughter, Alice Nichols.

The funeral ceremony for her was held on Monday, January 9, 2006, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello. Rev. James H. Huston officiated. Burial followed at the Edwards Cemetery at Oakville
