WAPELLO, Iowa - Delbert Eugene Buffington, 69, Wapello, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at his home.

Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Fulton Cairo Cemetery, rural Morning Sun. The Rev. Kendall Hughes will officiate. Honorary casket bearers are his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Kevin Buffington, Kimberly Broughton, Kristy Buffington, Andy Buffington, Alex Buffington, Bryon Buffington, Chad Buffington, Jennifer Buffington, Jessica Buffington, Jackie Buffington, Jeremy Buffington, Shantel Neubauer, Jayden Jackson, and Mackenzie Green.

Visitation is noon-8 p.m. today, with family present from 6:30-8 p.m., at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. A memorial fund has been established to benefit the Great River Hospice or a charity of choice.

Mr. Buffington was born Feb. 24, 1935, in Columbus Junction, the son of Kenneth and Dorothy Peters Buffington. He married Dorothy Woodruff March 6, 1954 in Cairo.

He graduated from Wyman High School in 1953.

He was a farmer and had worked at the Farmer's Elevator and Exchange, Wapello, for several years.

He had coached little league and was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed his farming and was a collector of John Deere relics. He had enjoyed harness horse racing and doing woodcrafts.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Michael Buffington and wife Janet of Wapello, Jeffrey Buffington and wife Sandee of Antwerp, Ohio, Keith Buffington and wife Janet of Mount Pleasant and LeRoy Buffington and wife Tammy of Morning Sun; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother; and a sister.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Kenneth.
