Richard "Dick" H. Buenneke, 67, of Longboat Key, Fla., died Jan. 15, 2003, in Sarasota Fla. He was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Oelwein, Iowa.

He was a winter resident of Longboat Key, for the last 15 years and lived in Brainerd, Minn., in the summer. He previously resided in West Des Moines, Iowa. He was president of Citizens Bank & Trust of Belle Plaine, and president of Iowa State Bank, Wapello, as well as serving as superintendent of the Banking Division, State of Iowa.

Mr. Buenneke earned his bachelor of law degree from the University of Iowa. A Navy veteran, he served in the Judge Advocate General Corps. He was a member of the Sarasota Yacht Club, past president of the Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Des Moines Club.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Martha; two sons, Richard H. Jr. and wife Margaret of Falls Church, Va.; John and wife Christen of Minneapolis; a sister, Judy Young of Cedar Falls and three grandchildren, Katie of Falls Church, and Arnie and Davey.

Services were held on Longboat Key. Donations may be made in his name to the Boy Scouts of America, Mid-Iowa Council, Raccoon River Valley, 1659 East Euclid, Des Moines, IA 50131, or to United Way of Central Iowa.

Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel in Sarasota handled arrangements.
