Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Visitation: 4-8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home.

MUSCATINE, Iowa - Wayne F. Brendel, 66, of Muscatine, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at Unity Hospital.

The Rev. Richard Sebeniecher of the New Hope United Methodist Church will officiate the service. Honorary casket bearers are Chase Oldfield, Cale Oldfield, Clint Oldfield, Bill McDowell and Kenny Gerst. Casket bearers are Adam Starkweather, Gene Castle, Wayne Castle, Warren Clark Jr., Denny Jarrett and John Neipert. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the combined squads of the American Legion Post 27 and the VFW Post 1565.

A funeral luncheon will be held at New Hope United Methodist Church following the commital.

Memorials may be made to the Louisa Co. Assoc. (LCA) Vietnam Veterans for the upkeep of the memorial at Grandview Corners or the Muscatine Humane Society. Online condolences for the Brendel family may be left at www.wittichfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Brendel was born on Nov. 12, 1939, in Letts, the son of William F. and Dorothy J. Johnson Brendel. He married Terry L. Everett on Jan. 9, 1986, in Muscatine, and became the best Dad in the world to Adam.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1964-66, including a tour in Vietnam. He was an avid patriot and loved his country.

He retired in 1994 after working 33 years at Grandview Processing Corp. in the starch plant, protein plant and finally, central stores.

He was a member of the LCA Vietnam Veterans American Legion, V.F.W., Masonic Lodge and the New Hope United Methodist Church where he was choir director until his health caused him to retire.

While he was still able, he volunteered at the Muscatine Humane Society. He also shared with the students in Muscatine Schools about his experiences as a soldier in the Vietnam War. He drove a stock car for many years and followed NASCAR. He coached little league for 35 years, retiring in 1999. He was a life-long Cardinal, Bears and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He crafted many wonderful items from his home business, WeeBee's Workshop. Through the years, he was on many bowling teams.

Survivors include his wife, Terry L. Brendel of Muscatine, two sons, Adam Everett and wife Melissa, of Iowa City, and Bill Brendel of Madison, Wis.; two daughters, Joan Brendel and Jenny Brendel, both of Muscatine; seven grandchildren, Luke and Haley Everett, Madi and Richie Dilts, Danie Eggers and Lauren and Jake Brendel; his father, William F. Brendel of Muscatine, one sister, Diana Oldfield and husband, Chuck, of Fruitland; two sisters-in-law, Colleen Neipert and husband, John, of Wapello and Billie Jo Gilpin of Waldorf, Md.; two brothers-in-law, Bill McDowell and wife, Janean, of Austin, Texas and Steve McDowell of Muscatine and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother in July of 2004.
