S. K. Brown Passed Away

S. K. Brown, an early pioneer of this community (Dawson County, Neb.) passed away at his home here last Saturday morning, following an illness of several weeks duration. He came to this community in 1885 homesteading south of town, and has made his home here continually since that time.

Sherman Kirk Brown, son of Julia Kirk and Joshua Brown, was born near Columbus Junction, Iowa March 22, 1863 and passed away at his home in Farnam after several weeks illness June 21, 1934 at the age of 71 years, 2 months and 29 days.

Mr. Brown spent his early manhood near the place of his birth in Iowa. He came to Nebraska July 4, 1885 and settled on a homestead in Frontier county eight miles south of Farnam, where they lived until about 1900 when they moved to Farnam where he engaged in the implement business until retiring from active business in 1922.

He was married to Miss Sadie Conner Sept. 1, 1889. To this union six children were born, four sons and two daughters: Earl A. of Curtis, Mrs. Lettie Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., Orlie K. of Arapahoe, S. Robert and Harold H. of Farnam. The oldest daughter, Edith passed away in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his departure besides his wife and children, two brothers, Henry N. of North Platte and Elba S. of Raleigh, N.C., one sister, Mrs. Lettie Shivell of Jackson Heights, N.Y., also four grandchildren.

Mr. Brown was one of the early pioneers of this section, was a good husband and father, neighbor and friend, and will be greatly missed by his family as well as other relatives, and many friends.

He was a member of the Farnam Methodist church at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. R. Tanner and Rev. J. E. Craig of Grafton. Interment was in the Farnam cemetery.
