Wapello Republican, March 12, 1992

William D. Brauns, Jr., age 76, of Wapello, died Monday, March 2, 1992 at the Muscatine General Hospital. He was born February 28, 1916 at Wapello, the son of William and Katherine Wehmeyer Brauns.

He married Dorothy Irene Boyd in 1932 at Wapello. On December 28, 1971 he married Mildred Kline at Des Moines.

He was a lifetime farmer in the Wapello area. His memberships include the United Methodist Church at Wapello, the Louisa County Farm Bureau, the Louisa County Corn Growers Association, the Flying Farmeres, and a former longtime member of the Elks Lodge at Burlington.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; one son, William and Jean Brauns of Morning Sun; four daughters, Lila (Mrs. Tom) Menke of Dubuque, Donna (Mrs. Wendell) Wilson of Lubbock, Texas, Norma (Mrs. Jack) Reeman of Pierce, Colorado, and Beverly (Mrs. Dean) Stade of Wilton; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace Kasten of Fredericktown, Ohio; and one brother, John Braums of Cape Coral, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and five sisters.

The Funeral Service for William Brauns was held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 5,1992 at the United Methodist Church at Wapello, with the Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. Music was provided by Pam Butler as organist and Wendell Wilson and Helen Wilson as vocalists.

The Honorary Bearers were Clyde Crawford, Gary Slight, Maurice Schmeiser and Hilton Pretz. The Casket Bearers were Jerry Wilson, Steve Edwards, John Edwards, Chris Brauns, William Daniel Brauns IV, and Rusty Brauns.

The Flower Attendants were Lisa Hood, Mary Dawn Schuck, Shelley Carter, Erin Brauns, Sheri Barker and Jo Schott.

The burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery.

A Memorial Fund has been established.

The family met with friends Wednesday evening at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
