COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa - Gordon A. Bowen, 78, Columbus Junction, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at his home.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Graveside services will be held at a later date at the Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Memorials may be made to the Iowa City Hospice.

Mr. Bowen was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Waterloo, the son of Albert L. and Irene L. Conradi Bowen. He married Mary J. Wordehoff Jan. 18, 1947, in Cedar Falls.

He served with the U.S. Army-Air Corp during World War II from November 1942 to November 1945, serving 27 months in the Pacific attaining the rank of Corporal.

He was a resident of Columbus Junction since 1966. Prior to that he lived in Cedar Rapids.

He was a watchmaker and owned Bowen's Jewelry from 1966-82.

He was a city council member from 1968-69 and was the mayor of Columbus Junction from 1970-72. He was a member of the Davenport Kaaba Shrine and the Allen Wright Hanft American Legion Post No. 100, Columbus Junction.

He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time at Lake Darling.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael Bowen of Boone, N.C. and Guy Bowen of Barrow, Alaska; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Dorothy Kennedy of Green Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
