John A. Otto

John August Otto, age 98, of Wapello, Iowa, died Sunday afternoon, August 22, 1993 at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. He was born March 12, 1895 at Wapello, the son of Henry G. and Emma Wehmeyer Otto. He married Alta McAfee on November 17, 1957. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1980. He had lived his entire lifetime on the family farm.

Mr. Otto had farmed and also had been owner of the Duck Pin Bowling Alley in Wapello. He was a graduate of Wapello High School in 1915. He was a member and officer of the Iowa Flying Farmers and a member of the United Methodist Church. He had enjoyed softball and for many years he maintained a lighted ball diamond on the farm.

He is survived by friends since he was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and four sisters.

A graveside service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 24, 1993 at the Wapello Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Philgreen officiating. The honorary bearers included Richard Timmerman, Paul Masonholder, Richard Kerr, David Kerr, Bill Brauns and Danny Yakle.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit.

Dudgeon McCulley Funeral Home provided the care and arrangements for John Otto.
