Harold L. Bliven Funeral Held

Harold LeRoy Bliven died October 3, 1978, at his home in Columbus Junction at the age of 55 years, 3 months and 19 days.

He was born June 14, 1923 in Columbus Junction the son of Roy and Pearl Hammond Bliven. He had lived all his life in the part of Columbus Junction known as Todd Town.

He married Lois Barber on December 2, 1950, at the United Methodist Church in Columbus Junction of which he was a member.

Harold served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Columbus City Lodge No. 107 A.F & A.M.

He was a retired fireman serving 12 years. he had been employed by the Rath Packing Co. for 17 years and before that worked many years at Fisher Motors in Columbus Junction.

Survivors include his wife; thee sons, Kirk of Columbus Junction and Kent and Kyle at home; one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Kyla) Spitznogle of Wapello; and one grandson. His mother also survives and six sisters, Mrs. Hollis (Lillian) Thompson, Mrs. Jack (Vera) Mewhirter, both of Columbus Junction, Mrs. Allen (Dorothy) Kemp of Ames, Mrs. Jack (Jean) Sims of Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. Dick (Maxine) Clevenger of Columbus Junction, and Mrs. Margaret Hawley of Lexington, Kentucky.

His father preceded him in death.

Services were held Thursday, October 5, at 2:00 p.m. at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Hasel officiated. Miss Donna Hughes was organist. Casket bearers were Ross Masonholder, Robert Morgan, Cecil Skipton Jr., Ray Boulton, Bill Hills and Bill Griffin. Burial was in Columbus City Cemetery.
