Mamie H. Birkenstock, 98, of Route 1, Oakville, died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1987, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Dec. 22, 1888, in Burlington, she was the daughter of George and Bertha Hellenthall Grupe. She married Arthur R. Birkenstock Sept. 22, 1908, in Burlington. He died March 1, 1966.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Church of Christ.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Virginia (Henry) Bowman, Route 1, Oakville; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Sunday Nov. 8 at Lunning Chapel. Services were held Nov. 9 at the Chapel. The Rev. Gene Kraus officiated. Burial was in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
