MUSCATINE, Iowa - Robert L. Bohling, 74, Muscatine, formerly of Letts, died Saturday, June 15, 2002, at Lutheran Homes after a lengthy illness.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Island Methodist Church. Burial will be at Letts Cemetery, Letts, with full military rites.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for the Letts Fire Department and the Louisa County Ambulance.

Mr. Bohling was born June 23, 1927, in Muscatine, the son of Alfred and Mildred Beatty Bohling. He married Linnie A. Rieke Aug. 27, 1949, at Island Methodist Church.

He was in the fifth Air Force Corps, serving in the Pacific Theater and Japan.

He was a foreman at Kent Feeds for 38 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1988.

He was a lifetime member of the Muscatine Veterans of Foreign Wars post No. 1545, The Allen Wright Hanft Post No. 100 of the American Legion and a past member of the Muscatine Moose Lodge.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards, raising livestock and being with people.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Roberta Jacobs and husband Melvin of Wilton; two sons, Jeffrey Bohling and wife Barbara of Muscatine and Mark Bohling and wife Cindy of Letts; six grandchildren, Corey and Kim Jacobs, Ben, Brett, Austin and Aaron Bohling; three great-grandchildren, Nicholaus and Katlin Sanders and Brandon Jacobs; three sisters, Mary Anna Wilson and Inez Cross, both of Muscatine and Frances Pelton of West Point, Calif; two brothers, Alfred "Cal" Bohling of Fruitland and John Bohling of Muscatine; and a sister-in-law, Betty Bohling of Muscatine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; a sister, Alice Peters; and a great-granddaughter, Alexandria.
