Hazel M. Bain, 1902-1989, age 87 of Wapello, died Friday night December 29, 1989 at Burlington Medical Center. She was born January 29, 1902 at Muscatine, Iowa the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Canarr Flood. She married Austin Bain on September 24, 1939 at Kahoka, Missouri. She had worked at the Automatic Button Factory in Muscatine and later at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant at Burlington until she retired in 1957. She was a Life Member of the VFW Auxiliary at Wapello.

Hazel Bain is survived by one son Clifford Welker of Ottumwa; a granddaughter Judith Bell of Mesa, Arizona; a grandson Scott Welker of Alpena, Michigan; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one daughter Vivian Rockafellow; and two brothers Elmer and Harvey.

Funeral service for Hazel Bain was held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday January 2, 1990 at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Young officiating. Kathleen Hagele provided the organ music. Casket bearers were members of the Wapello VFW that included Bill Paris, Max Stineman, Les Perkins, Hilton Odle, Dennis Brennan, and Doug Schneider. Burial followed at the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Rescue Unit and the Wapello Community Ambulance Service. The family met with friends Monday afternoon at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.
