Miss Esther C. Boulton Called By Death

Esther C. Boulton was born on February 1, 1908 in the Lone Oak community, the daughter of George and Florence Rickey Boulton. She departed this life November 9, 1978, at the home of her sister, Velma Cutkomp in Columbus City, Iowa.

Esther graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1925 with a normal training certificate. She received her B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa by attending school in the summers. She started her teaching career of thirty-seven years in the rural schools of Louisa County having taught eleven years at Lone Oak, Shellbark and Carson. She taught five years at Cotter and taught kindergarten in the Columbus Schools for twenty-one years.

She gave freely of her best, and the lives of hundreds of pupils who came under the guidance of Miss Boulton are the richer because of her. To the school and community she left a real heritage.

Esther was a faithful member and for many years a Sunday School teacher in the Free Methodist Church. She was a member of the Columbus City C.C.I.C., Shellbark Club, retired teachers organization and Senior Citizens.

Esther loved children and her whole life was working with, teaching and caring for them. She was Aunt Esther to a host of nieces and nephews also great nieces and nephews.

She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jenny Hanft and Mrs. Velma Cutkomp of Columbus Junction, two brothers, Floyd of Wapello and George of Ava, Missouri, 29 nieces and nephews and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, one in infancy, Edith and two brothers, Verne and Lloyd

It broke our hearts to lose you
But you did not go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
Now God is watching o'er you
With tender loving care
And even though we miss you
We know you're happy there

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 11, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home with Rev. Vernon D. Bundy officating. Music was by Elwood Layman and Charles Sparrow. Casket bearers Burdette Boulton, David Wilson, Dean McCulley, Craig Cutkomp, George Boulton and Roger Cutkomp. Burial was in the Columbus City Cemetery.
