May Belle Irene Bennett, age 89, a resident of the Wapello Nursing and Care Center, died there Monday, December 2, 1991. She was born December 25, 1901, Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Alice Nott Wheeler. She married Ernest Clifford Bennett on June 22, 1921 at Davenport. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1972. She had been an early telephone operator in Wapello and then primarily a homemaker. She had graduated from the Wapello High school.

Survivors include one son, Russell Bennett of Ft. Worth, Texas; two grandsons; a sister, Anna Brown of Wapello; and a brother Omer Wheeler of Charlevoix, Michigan.

There were no attending services for May Belle Bennett. Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home provided the care and arrangements. The burial of the cremains will follow at a later date at the Grandview Cemetery.
