Alverda Kathleen Beik, age 83, of the Beckett House in New Concord, Ohio, died Saturday, April 12, 1997 at the Beckett House.

The daughter of Arthur K. and Kathleen I. Larson Beik, she was born July 31, 1913 at Worcester, Massachusetts. She graduated from Milne High School in Albany, New York in 1930 and the New York State College for Teachers in Albany in 1934.

She served as Librarian and Teacher of English at Ancram, N.Y. High School and later served as Librarian at Sleepy Hollow High School in Tarrytown, New York. She retired in 1969 from the Tarrytown Schools after thirty-four years of service in the New York State system.

Survivors include two brothers, Paul H. Beik of Winter Park, Florida and Leland L. Beik of State College, Pennsylvania, and a number of nieces and nephews including Mrs. Steven (Karen) McGuire of Norwich, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Alora G. Soucek. Burial of the cremains will be at the Grandview Cemetery, Grandview, Iowa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Research.
