Lester John Beckman, age 88, Mediapolis, died Saturday, March 25, 1995 at the Community Care of America in Mediapolis.

The son of George and Christine (Beck) Beckman, he was born April 26, 1906 at Prairie Grove, IA.

On April 2, 1929 he married Esther Flachman at Prairie Grove, she died April 22, 1993. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran church in Mediapolis and had taught adult Sunday School classes for many years. He was a retired farmer, a former city clerk of Mediapolis, and had worked with his brother at Beckman Locker in Mediapolis, and had been employed for a short time at Lamp-Rehwaldt Implement in Muscatine. Lester loved the hobby of working on and restoring clocks of all kinds.

Survivors include: four daughters, Phyllis Small of Letts, IA; Lois Roelfs of Mediapolis, IA; Marilyn Brown of Columbia, MO; LaVonne Fulton of New London, IA; one son Paul Beckman of West Burlington, IA; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond of Burlington and Carl of Danville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother Maurice, and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 28, 1995 at 10:00 a.m. from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis, with Rev. Mary Jo Maass officiating. Interment was in Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural Burlington. Friends called after 9:00 a.m Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family met with friends from 5-7:30 p.m. Monday. A memorial has been established for Immanuel Lutheran church or the Mediapolish community Ambulance Service.

Music was provided by Joan Cling, organist, and Jim Davis, vocalist. Honorary bearers were: Lori Davis, Kelly Dwyer, Heidi Arnold, Alicia Small, and Devin Brown. Casket bearers were: Doug Roelfs, Donald roelfs, Lon Fulton, Gale Fulton, Evelyn Hollingworth, and Diane Roelfs.
