John Evertt Bazel, 94, of Gerald, Mo., formerly of Leslie, Mo., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, at Sullivan, Mo. He was born Aug. 4, 1909, in Denmark Township, Iowa, the son of James Louis and Lillie Ivins Bazel. He was united in marriage on June 17, 1951, to Hazel Noble Salzwedel.

He enjoyed watching his grandson play in the band. Everyone who knew him liked him. He greatly enjoyed antique tractors and auctions. He was a member of Owensville Old Threshers Association and Midwest Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church in Sullivan.

Survivors include one son, Ken Salzwedel and wife Betty in Iowa; two daughters, Janice Hoehle and husband Dean, Wapello and Elaine Gurda and husband Ron, Arizona; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, one great-granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Midlawn Funeral Home, Union, Mo.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the Wapello Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established for the Evergreen Baptist Church in Sullivan.
