Mrs. Edith Swan Passes Away
Aged Resident Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Edith Swan, 87, who for more than a half century has been a resident of the Morning Sun community, died at the Ross nursing home Friday, July 20, after having been in poor health for a number of years.

Mrs. Swan who came to Iowa from Ohio when she was a child, had spent the latter years of her life in the home of her daughter, Mrs. T.J. Callahan. Last April, when Mrs. Callahan's health failed, Mrs. Swan spent a few weeks with her daughter, Mrs. Loper, at Sperry and then returned to Morning Sun and entered the Ross nursing home.

Funeral services were held Sunday, July 22 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. O.L. Byrns in charge. Nancy Rose Morrison and Eleanor Burge sang "Beautiful Isle Somewhere" and "Whill There Be Any Stars In My Crown". Mrs. Harold Wheeler accompanied at the piano. Interment was in Elmwood cemetery.

Obituary

Edith Lou Ann (Congrove) Swan, daughter of Granville and Mary Jane (Murphy) Congrove, was born in Zanesville, Ohio on March 14, 1858. When she was nine years old she came with her parents to Iowa and the family settled near Kossuth. In 1876 she was married to Joseph John Swan and they moved to a farm near Morning Sun to make their home. In 1886 they moved to Morning Sun and Mrs. Swan has since been a resident of this place. She passed away on July 20, 1945 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 6 days. Mrs. Swan is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mollie Callahan of Morning Sun and Mrs. Nellie Riepe and Mrs. Bessie Loper, both of Sperry, and one son, Ray A. Swan of Peoria, Illinois. Her husband and one daughter, Mattie, preceeded her in death. Surviving also are five grandchildren.
