May 31, 1945 Morning Sun News-Herald. There is a photo of Sgt. Don Honeyman accompanying the article. I am not related and have no further information.

Bronze Star to Don Honeyman
Decorated for Gallantry in Action

Sgt. Donald Honeyman, who has seen extensive service in the Philipines with the 158th Infantry Regimental Combat Team has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for gallantry in action in connection with military operations on the 14th of January, 1945. Mrs. Lois Honeman has received the following letter in confirmation of the award.

Morning Sun, Iowa

Dear Mrs. Honeyman

By direction of the President, I have had the privilege of awarding to your son, Donald, a Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy on the 14th of January 1945 in the Philippine Islands.

I deem it an honor to serve in the same command with your son who typifies the finest in the American army - a brave and gallant soldier. I join with you in the prayer for his safe return when the war is won,

In addition to the above letter, Mr. Honeyman received the following communication from Brigadier General Hanford McNider, commander of the 158th Regimental Combat Team.

Dear Mrs. Honeyman;

I have just had the privilege and satisfaction of approving and forwarding to higher authority for action a recommendation for the award of the Bronze Star for Gallentry in Action to Technician Fourth Grade Donald W. Honeyman.

Your son is a first class fighting man and a credit to his organization and to the army. You can be very proud of him as are all of us who are associated with him in this command.

Donald was graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1938 and after his graduation from the University of Iowa four years later, he was employed as a photographer with Vogue magazine in New York. He was engaged in this work at the time of his entry into service.
