Ava Clarissa Bates, 79, Parkview Home, Wayland, died Wednesday, March 8, 1989 at Parkview.

Born January 30, 1910 at Exline, Iowa to Reverend Aaron T. and Nellie (Behrens) James. She married Gilbert W. Bates, January 20, 1931. He died March 2, 1963.

She worked as a beautician around 10 years in Winfield and for over 20 years in Columbus Junction. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include one daughter, Rose Custer, Crawfordsville; one son, Gilbert Bates, Livermore, California; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Lee, Burlington.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 1989 at 10:30 a.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield with Rev. James Edwards officiating. Interment will be in the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Parkview Home, Wayland.
