Eva Stewart, daughter of William and Anna Stewart was born on a farm near Northfield, December 16, 1871 and passed away at Mercy hospital, Burlington, Iowa, January 2, 1945 at the age of 73 years and 17 days.

She united with the Methodist church in her youth, of which church she was a life-long member. She was the first telephone operator in Morning Sun and served in that capacity for many years.

She was married to J.F. Rutt May 8, 1907. To this union was born one son, Clone H. Rutt of Mediapolis with whom she was making her home at the time of her last illness.

She leaves to mourn her death, her husband, her son, Clone, one step son Floyd Rutt of Columbus Junction, a sister, Mrs. B.L. DeLong of Minneapolis, Minn., a number of nieces and nephews and six grand children, Gary and Valerie Rutt of Mediapolis and Donald, James, Larry and LeVon Rutt of Columbus Junction.

Brief services were held at the Rutt home in Mediapolis on Thursday afternoon, Jan 4, and at the Methodist church in Morning Sun, Iowa at 2:30 the same afternoon.

Mrs. C.A. Brown sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and Mrs. Brown and Mrs. L. Ray Wilson sang as a duet "We Are Going Down the Valley.". Miss Nellie G. Curran accompanied at the piano.

Pall bearers were L.C. Rohfing, H.D. Cooley, Bert McKinley, John Lee, J.R. Wilson and John Hannah.

The funeral service had been planned by Mrs. Rutt before her death having selected the 23rd Psalm for the Scripture lesson and the 4th verse as the text for the sermon. The services were in charge of the pastor, R. Vernon Pike of Morning Sun.
