COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa
Donald Lee Ball, 71, Columbus Junction, died Sunday, July 13, 2002, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, after an extended illness.

Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction. Jim Jenson will officiate. Burial will be at the Letts Cemetery. After the burial, a luncheon at the American Legion, Columbus Junction.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the American Legion Allen Wright Hanft Post No. 100.

Mr. Ball was born Dec. 30, 1931, in Joplin, Mo., the son of Oscar and Ruby Maxwell Ball.

He was an U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War duing 1951-53. He was a member of the American Legion Allen Wright Hanft Post No. 100, Columbus Junction.

He worked at Therm-Ice Corporation as an over-the-road truck driver for 28 years until retiring in 1997.

He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing and hunting, spending time with family and attending grandchildren's events.

Survivors include his children, Randy Ball and wife Tina of Muscatine, Rick Ball and wife Denise of Letts, Linda Meeker and husband Brian of Vinton, and Mike Ball of Iowa City; a stepson, Rory Ball of Burlington; 11 grandchildren; one great grandchild; five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild sisters, Annabelle Kempf of Dixon, Mo., Juanita Wood of Muscatine, Dorotha Kirchner of Springdale, Ark., and Charlotte Jensen and husband Jim of Muscatine; and a sister-in-law, Donna Ball of Nichols.

He was preceded in death by his parets and a brother, Nelson Ball.
